LUCID AR · OBX SOFTWARE

Your world.
Your privacy.

Privacy policy · Updated October 3, 2026

Lucid AR uses your camera and location to help you understand and navigate your surroundings. Some features process data on your iPhone; AI answers and community features use external services. We do not sell your information or use it for advertising tracking.

Who this policy covers

This policy describes Lucid AR, provided by OBX Software Corporation. It applies specifically to Lucid AR and explains the version 1.2 update as well as differences in earlier versions. For privacy questions or deletion requests, email privacy@obxs.io or visit OBX Software support.

Camera and AI questions

Object recognition, live framing, text recognition, and AR measurements run on your device. Uncertain local identification can use cloud AI only with your consent. In version 1.2, when you enable AI snapshots and explicitly ask a question, a compressed camera image and your question are sent through Lucid’s authenticated service to OpenAI to generate an answer or guide. Optional automatic AI help can also send eligible snapshots while explicitly enabled in Discovery; pause it at any time. Visual guide checks send a confirmation photo and instruction. Manual questions send the selected excerpt and question. Our gateway does not store these private images, excerpts, questions, or answers. OpenAI may retain data under its API processing and abuse-monitoring policies; see OpenAI API data controls. Do not include information you do not want processed by these services.

Earlier versions may send images directly to OpenAI, including for cloud-assisted object identification. The explicit snapshot consent control and server gateway described here are introduced in version 1.2.

A completed measurement temporarily holds its camera image on your device for review. Saving a measurement stores the dimensions locally; it does not automatically save that review image.

Saved interactions and recent places

In version 1.2, saved answers, object records, photos, imported manuals, care history, private memories, guide progress and evidence photos, notes, favorites, measurements, remembered spots, and recent navigation destinations are stored on your device. They are not synchronized to Lucid’s servers. Your device backups may include this content according to your Apple settings. You can delete saved items, clear recent places, and turn off recent-place history in Settings. Sharing or exporting an item sends the content to the destination you choose.

Location, navigation, and community

With your permission, Lucid uses location and heading to provide Apple Maps search, walking routes, nearby places, and AR directions. For community place reports, the gateway checks your precise location, accuracy, and timestamp to verify proximity. It does not persist that submitted device location. The place coordinates, busyness, estimated wait, accessibility observation, and report timestamp are stored with a pseudonymous identifier. Other people can see active observations in the app.

Entrance photos require explicit public-sharing consent and a preview. The service strips embedded metadata and sends the photo to OpenAI for content review before publication and periodically afterward. Public building and landmark names also undergo automated content review. Reported content stays hidden; factual disputes and failed automated reviews are held for a person. Accepted images are stored with the public venue, entrance description, observation date and pseudonymous contributor ID. Photos stop appearing after 30 days; you can remove your own photo. Visitors can report photos or block contributors on their device. Reported photos are hidden pending review. Photo review attempts count toward a two-per-day abuse limit even when rejected.

Reports stop appearing after two hours. You can remove your active report in Place insights. Indoor building pins, hazard reports, votes, contribution scores, and the generated Explorer profile also use Firebase storage and may include precise place/location coordinates and an account identifier. These contributions may remain after uninstalling the app; contact us to request removal. Avoid entering private home locations or identifying details in public contributions.

Anonymous sign-in does not make contributions unlinked: repeated contributions can be associated with the same account.

Voice and translation

Microphone access is requested when you use voice input. Apple speech recognition runs on device where supported; otherwise Apple’s speech service may process your audio. Lucid does not store audio recordings. Text recognition and translation use Apple’s frameworks, with language downloads where required. See Apple’s privacy information.

Accounts, security, and subscriptions

Firebase provides anonymous authentication and community storage. Firebase App Check and Apple App Attest help verify that requests come from the app. The service stores pseudonymous usage counters, request status, timestamps, and moderation records to enforce allowances and prevent abuse. A pseudonymous identifier is not an advertising identifier.

Apple processes purchases; we do not receive payment-card details. Lucid verifies signed subscription transactions and uses a hashed transaction identifier to apply shared Pro allowances across devices. Version 1.2 disables Firebase Analytics collection. Earlier versions may use Firebase’s default analytics collection. Cloud providers may process IP addresses, technical request metadata, and operational logs for service delivery and security.

Weather

Current weather uses Apple WeatherKit. Coordinates are sent to Apple to obtain local conditions. Lucid caches conditions on the device for up to ten minutes and refreshes after significant movement. Unavailable or stale weather is hidden. See Apple’s privacy information and Apple Weather attribution. Earlier versions may use Open-Meteo.

Retention

Entrance photos expire after 30 days, new community reports expire after two hours, photo/report moderation flags after seven days, legacy contribution flags after 30 days, moderation queue records after 35 days, expired hazard vote records after 90 days, AI usage and request records after three days, per-minute rate-limit records after one day, community posting limits after three days, and cached weather after one day. These are expiry deadlines; asynchronous database cleanup can take additional time. Place records and older indoor contributions are retained until removed through maintenance or a valid deletion request. Provider logs and provider-held data follow the applicable provider retention policies. Local saves remain until you delete them or remove app data, subject to backups.

Your choices and requests

You can disable AI snapshots, stop recent-place history, delete local saves, remove your active place report, or revoke camera, microphone, and location permissions in iOS Settings. Some features will then be unavailable. To request access, correction, or deletion of server-held information, contact privacy@obxs.io with enough information to identify your contribution. Do not send payment-card information or account passwords. We may need to verify a request before acting on it.

Providers, transfers, and changes

Lucid uses Apple, Google/Firebase and OpenAI (earlier versions may also use Open-Meteo) for the purposes described above. Processing may occur outside your country. Data may also be disclosed where legally required or necessary to protect the service and its users. Lucid AR is not directed to children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has supplied personal information. We will update this page when practices change and reflect the date above.
